Strategy
Turn an ambitious idea into a direction people can understand, believe in, and act on.

Jess Robine · Strategic operator & builder
I help people untangle hard problems, build what comes next, and turn work that once felt overwhelming into something they know how to do.
The hardest challenges rarely arrive neatly labeled. They show up as stalled decisions, competing priorities, growth that outpaced the system, or a team that knows something needs to change—but not where to begin.
I step into that complexity with you. Together, we make sense of what is happening, find the signal in the noise, and build a path people can actually use.
Less theater. More traction.
My work sits where direction, execution, people, and change meet.
Turn an ambitious idea into a direction people can understand, believe in, and act on.
Design the systems, rhythms, and decisions that make the work more workable.
Build the structure and capability to grow without losing what made the work matter.
Help a team, initiative, or organization recover clarity, momentum, and trust.
Sometimes you need an experienced perspective. Sometimes you need someone inside the work. And sometimes you simply need an important project built and finished well.
When the obstacle is important—but the path forward isn’t yet clear.
Strategic advisory is designed for leaders facing an unfamiliar challenge, a stalled decision, competing priorities, or an issue that is limiting growth and progress.
I begin by listening: understanding the strategy, the people involved, the organization’s appetite for risk, and what has already been tried. From there, we assess the situation together, identify what to address—and what to avoid—and create a practical path forward.
The goal isn’t simply to deliver a recommendation. It’s to restore momentum and leave your team with the clarity, process, and confidence to carry the work forward.
Experienced leadership when continuity, confidence, and momentum matter.
The departure of a key leader can create more than an open position. It can affect team confidence, decision-making, workload, and the overall sense of direction.
Fractional leadership provides embedded support during that transition. I get up to speed quickly, restore leadership capacity, help steady the team, and keep important work moving while the executive team determines what the organization and role need next.
A successful engagement creates breathing room without creating dependency. The outcome may be a permanent hire, a redesigned leadership role, or—when the need and mutual fit are both clear—a conversation about evolving the relationship.
A defined outcome that needs dedicated expertise and execution.
Sometimes the destination is already clear; the organization simply needs someone who knows how to get there.
Focused projects are bounded, deliverable-led engagements designed around a specific need: developing a process, designing an operating model, shaping a go-to-market plan, evaluating a product or platform, leading a specialized initiative, or creating the documentation that makes a new way of working repeatable.
We define the objective, build the solution, document it, and prepare the team to use it.
Clear scope. Useful output. Successful handoff.
The principles underneath the work
Systems should support people—not ask people to work around them.
When people can see the path, complexity becomes something they can move through.
The best work leaves people better equipped for the next hard thing.
Deconstruct the challenge. Reconstruct it into decisions, actions, and habits.
Built from $0 to $150M
Building an emerging business was more than a growth story. It was an education in what happens when ambition moves faster than the systems, decisions, and shared confidence around it.
The work has to become clearer and more repeatable without becoming less human.
A direction only becomes useful when people can translate it into decisions of their own.
The strongest solution leaves people ready to handle the next hard thing with greater confidence.
Current work
Helping brands new to podcast advertising move from uncertainty to a clearer, lower-risk path to activation.
SpotsNow was already solving valuable problems across the podcast ecosystem. The opportunity was to focus that strength around a smaller set of high-impact use cases—and build a clearer path from discovery to transaction.
Working alongside founder Cam Pritchard and the SpotsNow team, I helped evaluate where the product and market aligned most strongly, focus priorities, shape the vision, and build the go-to-market strategy around those opportunities.
Two sides of the marketplace
Reduce friction for buyers. Create more opportunity for shows.
Podcast advertising can feel difficult and risky to enter, especially for brands that cannot meet traditional agency minimums or are not ready for a large initial investment. SpotsNow combines audience data, success metrics, benchmarks, and lower-investment tests to turn the complexity of a new channel into a clearer path to activation—and help brands grow with confidence.
SpotsNow puts networks, publishers, and individual shows in front of thousands of potential new advertisers. By making available inventory easier to discover and act on, the platform helps leave fewer host-read opportunities unbooked—and turns more inventory into revenue.
My contribution
I bring experience across digital media—from programmatic and CTV to podcast and audio—and a practical understanding of what marketers, agencies, and media owners need to see before they can invest with confidence.
Drawing on my background as a solutions engineer, I evaluate product-market fit and translate market needs into product decisions. Most recently with SpotsNow, that has meant providing feedback on the user experience, data connections, and how information is surfaced so both buyers and networks can build confidence and move toward a transaction.
“Jess understands both sides of the podcast advertising marketplace—what buyers need to feel confident investing and what networks need to monetize more of their inventory. Her perspective has helped us sharpen our priorities, strengthen the platform, and create a clearer path toward meaningful transactions.”

The philosophy behind JRO Strategy
Project Campfire is a growing body of ideas, tools, and conversations about how people make meaning, build confidence, and move through complexity together. It is not a separate offering. It is the human philosophy underneath all of the work.
